Facing a condition called Pyoderma Faciale, also known as Rosacea Fulminans, can be tough, especially for women in their 20s to 30s. This skin problem is linked to stress hormones and shows up as big, red, and painful bumps mainly on the forehead, cheeks, and chin. It’s weird because the cheeks stay clear, creating a sort of pattern. Some women who never had acne before get hit with this after a really stressful time. It’s like a double whammy of skin issues!
What might seem like really bad acne is actually a serious form of rosacea—rosacea fulminans.
Before this skin trouble kicks in, there’s usually some heavy emotional stress, and the skin gets super oily, needing frequent washing (like twice a day). It seems to affect only certain women who lack a specific enzyme. This enzyme issue messes with the normal production of a hormone called hydrocortisone and makes the body produce too much testosterone instead.
Doctors can spot this condition through blood tests, and there’s a medicine called dexamethasone that can help by slowing down testosterone production. But, because it’s a steroid, some people are hesitant to take it.
We took a different approach with our client. We used antibacterial and anti-inflammatory serums along with benzoyl peroxide. During the day, our client used a special cream called A02, which has oxygen to fight bacteria. Choosing the right products made a big difference in getting this tough type of rosacea under control for our client.
